Months 1–2Introduction to MRI. Foundations of MRI technology and its role in medical imaging.
Medical Terminology. Prefixes, suffixes, root words, abbreviations, and positioning terms.
General Anatomy & Physiology. Core anatomy and physiology concepts for MRI technologists.
Subatomic Principles of MRI. Magnetism, electromagnetic waves, resonance, and precession.
Instrumentation I: Magnets. Magnet types, superconductivity, cryogens, and imaging hardware.
MRI Safety I: Magnetic Fields. Zones, projectile and cryogen hazards, screening, contraindications.
MRI Safety II: RF & Gradient Fields. RF burns, SAR management, implant safety, and acoustic-noise hazards.
MRI Procedures & Set-Up I: Neuro. Brain and spine positioning, landmarks, and protocols.
MRI Procedures & Set-Up II: Body. Body-region positioning, landmarks, and imaging procedures.
MRI Procedures & Set-Up III: MSK. Knee, hip, shoulder, elbow, and wrist positioning and coverage.
Patient Care & Management. HIPAA, patient rights, vitals, infection control, and communication.
Cross-Sectional Anatomy I: Neuro. Brain structures, vessels, and pathology across all planes.
Image Contrast Mechanisms. How T1, T2, and PD weighting and TR/TE create image contrast.
Simulator: Advanced Imaging & Scanning
Months 3–7Instrumentation II: Gradients. Gradient amplitude, rise time, and slew rate in imaging.
Instrumentation III: Surface Coils. Transmit/receive coils, phased arrays, SNR, and coil safety.
Pulse Sequences I. Spin echo: TR, TE, k-space, contrast weighting, and scan time.
Cross-Sectional Anatomy II: Body. Chest, abdomen, and pelvis anatomy across all planes.
Pulse Sequences II. Inversion recovery (STIR, FLAIR), gradient echo, and fast spin echo.
Image Quality & Parameter Selection. TR, TE, FOV, matrix, and bandwidth trade-offs.
Image Artifacts. Identifying and correcting motion, aliasing, chemical-shift, and more.
MRI Safety III: Contrast Agents. Gadolinium chemistry, administration, reactions, NSF, screening.
Cross-Sectional Anatomy III: MSK. Shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, and ankle anatomy.
Clinicals: Advanced Applications
Months 8–18MR Angiography. Time-of-flight, phase-contrast, and contrast-enhanced MRA.
Advanced Applications: EPI. Diffusion (DWI/DTI), perfusion, and functional MRI.
Advanced Applications: Spectroscopy. Metabolite identification, voxel placement, and clinical use.

Students progress through the batches in order on the MRI simulator. Four passing simulator studies count as one clinical hour (up to ~250 hours) toward the 1,000-hour clinical requirement.
Clinical Competencies
93 skills · 7 domainsEach competency is demonstrated on live equipment during the clinical internship and scored 1–5 by the student's mentor.
